Michigan Alumni Community Service Day

The Alumni Association's Clubs Council is sponsoring a club-wide community service day that will take place on Graduation Saturday, April 26.

The University of Michigan Club of Greater Boston will be volunteering for the 2008 Earth Day Charles River Cleanup. We have reserved a spot with the Charles River Conversancy to clean up the river banks and adjacent parks on the south side of the Charles between the Lars Anderson and Elliot Bridges.

The University of Michigan Club of Central Ohio will be volunteering with Rebuilding Together Columbus, a one-day annual community service effort directed toward repairing homes of low income homeowners in Central Ohio. With an emphasis on families, elderly and those living with a disability, Rebuilding Together Central Ohio provides renovation services so that homeowners may live with independence and dignity.

The University of Michigan Club of Charlotte is working with Habitat for Humanity to help sheath a roof at Poole Place in Cornelius, NC

The University of Michigan Club of Greater Chicago is planning two activities: Helping the American Brain Tumor Association staff their Annual 5k run at Montrose Harbor and also helping kids in the Uptown neighborhood by volunteering at the McCormick Boys and Girls Club at 4835 N. Sheridan Road. Volunteers will help provide academic and moral support, encouragement and guidance to students or will assist with sprucing up the club for spring cleaning

The University of Michigan Club of Dallas will be supporting Rebuilding Together's National Rebuilding Day. Rebuilding Together is a national nonprofit whose mission is to preserve affordable housing by bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate the homes of low income homeowners. The Greater Dallas affiliate will be sponsoring the repair and resoration of five homes in the 75216 zip code, one of which our club will be working on.

The U of M Club of Delaware is once again participating in the Delaware Adopt-a-Highway program. We have adopted Route 41 in Hockessin from Brackenville Road to Graves Road.

The U of M Club of Denver will be volunteering at the SAME café, a non-profit, charity based restaurant, located at 2023 E. Colfax, whose objective is to erase hunger by serving anyone in need.

The University of Michigan Club of Golden Gate will be participating with habitat restoration and the removal of invasive weeds at Land's End with the Golden Gate National Park Conservancy as part of the Lands End Restoration Project.

The University of Michigan Club of Los Angeles has chosen to volunteer at the Los Angeles Festival of Books. The festival began in 1996 and continues to bring together people who create books and the people who love to read them.

The University of Michigan Club of Miami-Fort Lauderdale will be working with Hands-On Miami assisting in the beautification of Miami

The University of Michigan Club of New Hampshire plans to take part in Clean Up Day at the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness, New Hampshire.

The University of Michigan Club of New York will be cleaning up Bull Moose Dog Run - W. 80th St Between Columbus and Central Park West to help our furry friends.

The University of Michigan Club of Greater Northville will be supporting the American Cancer Society on May 17-18 by participating in the Relay for Life.

The University of Michigan Club of Orange County will be participating in Roots Days at Upper Newport Bay on April 26. Sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, participants will remove invasive weeds

The University of Michigan Club of Palm Beaches will be participating in the March of Dimes 2008 March For Babies. This event is a five mile walk around the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

The University of Michigan Club of Richmond will once again participate in ElderHomes Work Day as part of Hands On Richmond. We will repair the home of a low-income individual in the Richmond area.

The University of Michigan Club of San Diego will be helping the La Jolla Sunrise Rotary Club to help restore the greenhouse at the San Pasqual Academy, a residential high school for foster kids that is unique in the country and was devastated by fire last October.

The University of Michigan Club of Tampa Bay will be partnering with Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo to help build piñatas for the primates to celebrate ZooFiesta! The piñatas will be used as enrichment toys for the animals, which they will be able to "bust" open during FiestaZoo.

The University of Michigan Club of Toledo will be volunteering at the Toledo Zoo. Participants will be helping with landscaping.

The University of Michigan Club of Twin Cities will be doing interior painting at The Archdale, a residential facility housing formerly homeless youth that is run by Aeon Housing.

The University of Michigan Club of Washington DC has volunteered to help Hands On DC, an all -volunteer project that creates better schools and brighter futures for students in the District of Columbia. Hands on DC is a nonprofit organization that conducts an annual citywide work-a-thon to improve the physical condition of Washington, DC public schools, raises funds to support local college scholarship programs, and encourages greater community involvement in the public schools.

The University of Michigan Club of Grand Rapids Club will be doing some spring cleaning at United Church Outreach Ministry in Wyoming, MI.

The University of Michigan Club of Downriver will be supporting the American Cancer Society on May 17-18 by participating in the Relay for Life.

The University of Michigan Club of Flint will be packing boxes for the needy and shorting non-perishable food that has been donated to the Food Bank of East Michigan

The University of Michigan Club of Hilton Head is making cookies to send to our troops in Afganistan.

The University of Michigan Club of Atlanta is volunteering for Rebuilding Together. Their volunteers have been assigned to the home of a 96-year old woman whose home was hit by the tornado.

The University of Michigan Club of Bay City will be participating in the Mid Michigan Start! Heart Walk on May 17.
