NEW Feature

KidSport offers children the opportunity to learn and refine non-competitive sport-specific skills, team building and social skills.

The KidSport morning session teaches sports, games, and other physical activities, both inside the CCRB and outside on Palmer Field, the tennis courts, basketball court and roller hockey court. Activities may include swimming (instructional and play), cooperative games, safety behavior and team sports. The activities are age and developmentally appropriate, and are developed by experts in children’s physical education.

The KidSport afternoon session offers in-depth sport-specific training. One-week sessions focus on golf, tennis, basketball, with roller hockey joining the KidSport Afternoon lineup!
Camp Explorations is a morning and afternoon complement to KidSport offered through the University of Michigan's Exhibit Museum of Natural History. The interactive program expands kids’ knowledge of world history through experiments, crafts and activities. Camp Explorations may be combined with KidSport to create a full day of physical activity and learning!

KidSport has also partnered with Outdoor Adventures to offer two one-week sessions of rock climibing, fun and fitness. This week is a skill-based rock climbing progression including beginning rock climbing and bouldering techniques for kids ages 8-10 and 11-12. All experience levels are welcome!

Events & Programs

The Alumni Association has partnered with two special events on June 1 in Detroit for unique experiences with a U-M twist:

  • Interested in classical music? Consider Michigan Alumni Day with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at the Max M. Fisher Music Center. The performance features the world premiere of U-M alumna Stacy Garrop's "Becoming Medusa." For one low price you get a mid-balcony concert ticket and admission to our private, Michigan alumni afterglow reception held in the delightful Donors Lounge at The Max. At the reception you'll have the opportunity to chat with various performers who participated in that day's show, including many Michigan alumni.

  • If live theater is your thing, then you won’t want to miss Michigan Alumni Day at “The Color Purple.” Presented at the fabulous Fox Theatre, this is the first North American touring production of this powerful show. You can take advantage of an exclusive pre-performance brunch, where a cast member will share the experience of being a part of the show, and then enjoy the matinee performance.

U-Meet the Athlete

U-Meet the Athlete gives children ages 5 to 12 the opportunity to participate in sports clinics with U-M student-athletes. The program goals are to have fun and stress the importance of mastering fundamentals, doing well in school and staying healthy. Kids may attend all or one of the sessions. The sessions cost $20 and start in November and run through April. For information about the program or to print out the registration sheet, click here.

Health and Wellness

Parents: Are your children's Rx meds FDA-approved?

Most parents believe that any medicine prescribed by a health care provider for their child is safe and approved by the FDA for use in children, according to a report by the U-M C.S. Mott Children's Hospital National Poll on Children's Health. But, experts say, many may be surprised to learn that less than one-third of prescription medicines available for kids actually have formal FDA approval.

Childhood leukemia survivors struggle with long-term side effects

Cough medicine Survival rates of childhood cancers, especially leukemia, have improved greatly in the past three decades, but survivors of this disease still seem to face many health and lifestyle challenges as young adults. Depending on the extent of their disease and treatment methods, many continue to struggle with one or more life-long medical conditions and decreased quality of life.

Eco-friendly inhalers will cost kids with asthma more green

Newly mandated environmentally friendly inhalers will come at a greater cost to low- and middle-income families that have children with asthma. U-M experts say most of these families will see a 200 percent to 400 percent increase in their prescription co-payments or out-of-pocket costs, especially since a generic version of the medication will not be available.
