Your Next Destination

Experience the “The Romance of the Blue Danube” aboard the MS Switzerland II, which you will embark in Bucharest, Romania. Begin by sailing to Rousse and enjoy the pastel-colored architecture and cosmopolitan ambience. You’ll also explore Roman ruins in Drobeta-Turnu Severin. Cross the Carpathian Mountains through the Iron Gate Gorge to visit the Gothic Parliament Building and Opera House of Budapest, Hungary. Then cruise through Serbia, Slovakia, Austria and the charming Wachau Valley, lined with vineyards and castle ruins. Throughout the voyage, an expert lecturer will add insight to what you’re seeing.

Trip Host Spotlight

Helene Neu of the Department of Romance Languages joins AAUM on our tour of Normandy and Brittany. As director of the Elementary French Program, she oversees the curriculum and trains and supervises graduate student instructors and lecturers. She teaches all levels of French language classes, French phonetics and courses in methods of second language learning and teaching. Neu is a past recipient of the College of LSA’s Matthews Underclass Teaching Award and of LSA’s Excellence in Education Award. During the past two years, she has worked with U-M's Office of International Programs to set up and evaluate the new Paris Art History program. Act quickly to join Neu on this exclusive departure while space is still available.

Travel Tips

Getting a great seat while flying isn’t always possible, but Check Me In has just made it easier. Airlines generally allow online check-ins 24 to 30 hours before takeoff. If passengers want to choose their seat (with the most availability), they have to remember to log on as soon check-in opens, which can be in the middle of the night. For 7 euros per one-way flight (about $11 at press time), Check Me In guarantees to honor your seat preferences and assign you a great seat.

Hot Off the Press

AAUM is excited to share its preliminary 2009 True Blue Travel collection on the Web. Detailed trip itineraries and information will be posted online Thursday, May 15. New destinations for 2009 include Italy's Amafi coast, Dubai, Israel, Mexico's Copper Canyon and Yellowstone National Park. Additional destinations may be added to the collection in the next few months. Trip-specific brochures are available six to eight months before the trip departure. We look forward to having you travel with True Blue Travel in 2009.
