What is the Alumni Directory?

This comprehensive directory is your best source to connect with fellow alumni all over the world.

Who is included in the directory?

The directory currently only includes people who received a University of Michigan degree from the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, or Flint campus.

I don’t see someone listed in the directory, but they graduated from U-M. Why are they not listed?

The person is not listed because they opted out of the directory.

Using the directory

How do I log in?

You can log in on the directory page (once it is available) using your uniqname and password (you will be redirected to the directory page after logging in).

What if I've forgotten my uniqname/password?

How do I get in touch with someone via Alumni Directory email?

After completing a search, click on the person you would like to contact and hit the email button that shows up in their profile next to their name. Fill in the subject and body and hit send. Your message will be sent to that person via the directory, and it is up to them to reconnect and share their email address for any further contact. (Note: If we don’t have an email on file, or if that person has opted out of email communication, the email button will not appear in their profile.)

How do I add a photo to my profile?

In order to add or change your photo, go to your profile and click “Change Photo” in the upper-left corner.

Can I still look up other alumni if I’m not a member of the Alumni Association?

Yes, you can still look up other alumni even if you are not a member of the Alumni Association. However, you do need to have a U-M login to access it. (If you’re not currently a member and would like to join, visit or call 800.847.4764.)

Privacy and updating your information

What information of mine will be visible/searchable?

By default, first and last name, city, state/province, country, and degree-related public information are viewable and searchable. All information may be hidden by opting out of the directory. Please note that changes will only block information from being displayed in the directory and will not permanently delete the information from U-M’s official alumni records.

Who has access to the directory? Who can see my information?

Access is limited exclusively to University of Michigan alumni who have obtained a U-M degree.

Why are email addresses not visible?

This is a security feature to protect alumni from unwanted use of their email address. Alumni can still reach out and contact other alumni via the directory email feature, but it’s then up to the person being contacted to reconnect and share their address for any further contact.

Where does the information in my profile come from?

Your personal profile information is pulled from the University of Michigan’s official alumni records. If you notice inaccurate data, please alter that information by updating your profile, emailing us at, or calling us at 800.847.4764. It may take about seven days for your profile in the Alumni Directory to reflect any changes.

How secure is my Alumni Directory information?

The privacy of your personal information is our top priority. Areas of the website containing private information are located on a separate, secure server using secure sockets layer (SSL) protection. Only you can access and update your personal information, and you can opt out of the directory entirely in your profile.

How do I opt out of the directory?

You may opt out by updating your profile and checking the “Opt out from Alumni Directory” box. If you wish to opt back in, simply uncheck the box.

If I opt out, does this affect my membership with the Alumni Association?

No. You will continue to receive access to all of your existing membership benefits offered by the Alumni Association.
