Best Practices for Alumni Clubs

Best Practices: Example #47

Club nameU of M Club of New York
What made you choose this method of promotion? The open house is a very welcoming event. It's always at the residence of an alum. "Club" can mean many things and we feel it very important to give alums a forum where they can find out what we are all about without committing to a specific event.
Why is this means of promotion better than other methods?Very personal. We feel it's easier to get someone to commit in person.
Who helped to make this happen (stranger from local paper, AAUM, club member w/connections)?Each year the open house comes together with the help of many. Last year, Jill Gartenberg contacted an alum/friend who owns a loft in TriBeCa for the meeting. Daniel Bernard Roumain, an alumnus, played his violin for us for extra benefits to participants.
How much did this cost the club?About $500
How far in advance of needing it did you have to prepare the materials (how much planning did it take)?Since it is a yearly event we are pretty good at pulling it off in a few weeks planning and a month of publicity. Plus, since it is in the early fall, we can't do much over the summer.
How did this benefit the club?Membership, actives and awareness
Is there additional information you would like to share?Great way to welcome the new grads and bring in the new breed
