Best Practices for Alumni Clubs

Best Practices: Example #44

Club nameU of M Club of Greater Boston
What made you choose this method of promotion? It was a way to try and keep people informed on a weekly basis about what the club was doing. It was an effort to keep our members as current as possible with club events and news.
Why is this means of promotion better than other methods? This method allows us to reach out and inform our members on a more consistent and frequent basis. Most people have access to email so this allows us more contact with our members.
Who helped to make this happen (stranger from local paper, AAUM, club member w/connections)?Local board and club members suggested the idea. With assistance from Ann arbor, we were able to devise an email list which allows us to contact members when need be. We are always trying to get email addresses from our members so that we can keep as many members current with club activities as possible. The thought was that the more members we can reach on a consistent basis, the more involvement we will attain.
How much did this cost the club?As far as I know, nothing. It was just time and effort to create and maintain on an ongoing basis.
How far in advance of needing it did you have to prepare the materials (how much planning did it take)? There was no specific date by which we needed this mailing list. It was just created over time.
How did this benefit the club?I believe it is very beneficial in reaching club members on a timely basis. Percentage wise, we need to get many more members on our mailing list.
Is there additional information you would like to share? In this day and age of technology and the pervasiveness of email, I would highly recommend this medium as a communication tool for all clubs.
