U of M Club of Dallas
There are so many times that you will see a car with a U-M sticker/license plate and they may not know anything about the local club.
It isn't necessarily better; it is just another way to reach out to people.
I did it by myself. Since I am self-employed I have been printing my own business cards for years so I have a program on my computer to do it. Once we had a club logo designed it just seemed that business cards (both generic and for individual board members) were the next logical step.
Minimal cost. Ink cartridges for printer and business card paper (approximately $100-$150 for 1,000 cards)
Again, since I've been designing/printing my own business cards for several years this didn't take much time. I did a couple of different layouts and printed out samples for the board to approve. Design time: two or three hours. Approval time: one board meeting. Then printed them out once approved. This would take longer if you were going to have them professionally done.
Since the Web site has so many characters it is easier to just hand people a business card with it pre-printed on it than have to write it down every time someone asks for it. It makes board members really accessible to new people since their "personalized" cards have their umich.edu email account on them.
I would recommend buying a program called "My Business Cards" (or something similar) and doing these yourself. It is much cheaper than having them professionally done, and you have the flexibility to change the design, layout, etc., anytime.
