| U of M Club of Manistee | | In In addition to a comprehensive AAUM mailing, scholarship donations are solicited at the annual dinner meeting and student send-off picnic using auctions and one-day-license lotteries. These efforts typically produce $200 to $300. The balance of the scholarship fund is appropriated from the AAUM's annual distribution. | | Most of our sale and auction items have been either donated or purchased by the club through the AAUM. | | The scholarship committee basically consists of five members; however, several additional members usually review and rank student applications from a high school other than their own-this is particularly important when considering awards to be presented at three or four local high schools. | | The student send-off picnic committee spends about two months working out all the details including invitations, media releases, food, recreation and preparing individual send-off packages. | | The send-off kits are both well received and practical (pre-paid calling cards, pre-printed multiple choice postcards: Send Money, Having a Great Time, Send More Money, etc.) Other items include AAUM trinkets such as pens, note pads, etc. | Tom Culbert, scholarship chair, culbert@jackpine.com Betty Kitson, board member, davkitso@jackpine.com |
