Best Practices for Alumni Clubs

Best Practices: Example #25

Club nameU of M Club of the Sun Cities and West Valley
Program nameDr. Karen Wolff, dean of the U-M School of Music
Program dateFebruary 20, 2003
How was this program promoted? The club publicity person sent articles and pictures of Wolff to eight local area papers. Large poster displayed at events.
How many people were responsible for planning this program and about how much time did it require?Basically three people: one starting about 1 _ years prior to event. After initial OK received, no more than eight hours required.
How much did this program cost the club?$150 donation to the School of Music Scholarship Fund. The cost of a mailing 2-for-1 about $40.
How much did the club charge participants?$20 for the cost of the dinner held in a local country club
What "sold" this program to members (what was the highlight)?Highlight Wolff's presentation and the venue. The country club is always a popular place--good food and excellent service. Maybe some of the publicity and an interest in music.
How many people attended?67-the largest attendance that we have ever had at any of our events.
Is there additional information you would like to share? We find that having someone from Ann Arbor is a big draw. We try to do during time when someone will be traveling in the area. We don't have funds to pay transportation and lodging.
