Best Practices: Collaboration Providing assistance to or collaborating with other organizations in a club's area offers additional fellowship and networking opportunities and diversifies the club's programming.
How Other Clubs Have Made This Happen The U of M clubs of Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego organized a "SoCal Ski Trip" to a nearby ski resort over the Martin Luther King weekend in January. The clubs are also planning a joint trip to Las Vegas for June 2003. The U of M Club of Fort Wayne sponsored a soccer tailgate party with the local alumni clubs from Notre Dame and Indiana. The event was held in conjunction with a Soccer Showcase tournament at a local university. The U of M Club of New York co-hosts an annual boat cruise with the University of Colorado alumni club. Many clubs are able to take advantage of University faculty and personnel who may be traveling to their area for development purposes or to attend a conference. For example, Bill Gosling, director of the University Library, spoke to alumni in the Triangle area , Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix, Tucson and the Sun Cities as part of a fund-raising tour for the library. The U of M Club of Sarasota is one of several clubs that participates in local Big Ten alumni club activities. The club participates in an annual Big Ten luncheon and gathers with local Penn State and Ohio State alumni clubs to watch Michigan football games. The U of M clubs of Richmond and Tidewater host an annual joint holiday party at a place of local interest somewhere in between the two clubs. One party consisted of a luncheon and tour of the holiday decorations at Colonial Willamsburg. |
