Things to Consider…
- Does this group have a defined mission statement?
- If so:
- Is the mission statement consistent with the AAUM’s mission?
- Is the mission one that brings together/unites members of this group?
- Is the mission of the group to serve the University of Michigan, its alumni/students, or both?
- Does this group have at least 750 identifiable and contactable alumni? (The group should be able to help our office identify at least 750 alumni who could be connected to the group. This also ties into the requirement that the group be committed to providing any alumni and all student/alumni records and assistance to AAUM to ensure that its alumni can be easily identified and recorded in the Alumni Association database.)
- Does the constituency of this group consist entirely of UM alumni and students?
- Does this group have a commitment from at least 8 volunteers to ensure continuity of leadership?
- If so:
- Is there a written succession plan?
- Are there written job descriptions detailing roles and responsibilities for the group’s leaders?
- How many volunteers are ready to assume leadership roles?
- How will this group:
- Give greater exposure of the Alumni Association to alumni?
- Provide more engagement and volunteer opportunities for UM alumni?
- Increase AAUM membership?
- Promote AAUM’s existing programs?
- Newly formed alumni affiliate groups will not be allowed to charge dues – given this information, how does this group plan to raise funds?
- Does this group already have written bylaws? If not, is the leadership prepared to create (and abide by) such a document?
If you can answer yes to all or most of these questions, please consider applying for AAUM formal affiliate group status! Contact Kellie Durham, manager of alumni and affiliate relations, at durhamke@umich.edu or 734.763.9752.
