Founders Room Information

Hours Available

The Alumni Center is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Functions may be scheduled during these times as well as during non-regular business hours for an additional cost. All functions must conclude by 10 p.m. The Alumni Center is a smoke-free building.

The Alumni Association facilities coordinator is responsible for overseeing the functions during regular business hours. At least one Alumni Association employee shall be present at and responsible for each function scheduled.

Reservation Procedures

All functions are scheduled on a reservation basis by the Facilities Coordinator Office of the Alumni Association. For reservations and information contact Steve Lindimore at 734.763.9566 or slindi@umich.edu.

The Alumni Association reserves the right to give priority to functions sponsored by the Alumni Association or groups affiliated with the Alumni Association.

While reservations to use the Alumni Center facilities may be made at anytime, space for non-Alumni Association functions cannot be confirmed more than six months in advance of the date of intended use. A written confirmation will be sent for each function.

Cancellations of reservations must be made at least two weeks prior to the date of the intended use. Groups canceling after that deadline will pay 50 percent of the rental charge. The Alumni Association reserves the right to cancel reservations upon at least one week’s notice without any liability on the part of the Association to the group whose event is canceled.

Rental Policies

There is a rental charge for the use of the Founders Room. Additional room rates will be added for functions taking place during non-business hours. Charges beyond the basic rate will be made when additional security, janitorial service or other special services or equipment are required.

Each renter shall be held financially responsible for all damage, misuse, theft or misappropriation of and to the building, the leased premises, the furnishings and the equipment due to its activities or those of people attending its function.

Groups are not permitted to bring their own food or beverage into the Alumni Center. Beverage and food service arrangements are to be made through a licensed caterer (Michigan League, University Catering or a commercial caterer). The serving of all meals must be confined to the kitchen and/or the Founders Room. The Alumni Center is covered by the Michigan League’s liquor license; therefore, all alcoholic beverages served at the Alumni Center must be provided and served by the Michigan League. For additional information on alcohol use, reference the attached General Council FAQ on alcoholic beverage usage at University events. www.ogc.umich.edu/faq_alcohol.html

Groups using the Alumni Center are responsible for restoring the Alumni Center to its original condition immediately upon termination of an event or function (including, but not limited to, garbage, dishes, kitchen area, foyer, front desk, etc.), unless prior arrangements have been made in advance. Additional charges may apply.

Decorations are permitted on tabletops or as portable displays only. No decorations may be attached to the floors, walls or ceiling of the Alumni Center. If candles are used as table decoration, they must have an adequate base to catch all melted wax. Use of the fireplaces requires advanced arrangements and there will be an additional charge for paper logs.

Sale of merchandise or fund-raising functions by any group using the Alumni Center facilities is permitted only in accordance with provision number two of the Guidelines of Use of University of Michigan Facilities adopted by the Board of Regents, and must comply with the Sales Policy for Major University Auditoriums and Buildings, including Crisler Arena.

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, its staff and officers are not responsible for lost, stolen and/or damaged equipment or personal belongings brought into the Alumni Center by any group or its participants using the facilities or for activities at their functions. Accordingly, groups using the Association’s facilities will indemnify and hold harmless the Alumni Association and its employees and agents against any and all claims, liabilities, costs, and expresses, including attorney fees and court costs, concerning lost, damaged, or stolen property, or personal injuries, death, arising out of the activities of such groups or their participants using the Alumni Center.
